Omer Fast uses complex narrative structures to explore the different ways stories are constructed. Blurring the boundaries between "reality" and "representation" and between document and artifice, his practice questions the status of the image. This exhibition, co-produced with Jeu de Paume, Paris and Kunsten Museum of Modern Art, Aalborg, will present new and recent work.
Jumana Emil Abboud works with drawing, installation, video and performance, exploring personal and collective memory, loss, longing and belonging. Inspired by the cultural landscape of her home, Abboud draws on the traditions of Palestinian folklore and myth-making by collecting stories and fairy tales. Investigating these story telling practices and oral histories, the artist provides new interpretations for the tales she has discovered.
The Cyphers is Hajra Waheed's largest solo exhibition to date and expands upon Still Against the Sky, a recent presentation at Kunst-Werke, Berlin. The exhibition continues Waheed's ongoing research into what has been described as 'our current aerial occupation,' highlighting the ever increasing militarisation of the sky, where the circulation of military drones and surveillance technology extends over everyday life, often with lethal consequences.
Common Ground brings together work by four contemporary artists and four community groups living and working in South East Northumberland.
If you've been to see the current Hajra Waheed exhibition on the Ground Floor we want to hear what you thought. Please let us know about your experience of the exhibition by answering a few short survey questions.
