Norwegian artist Ida Ekblad (born Oslo, 1980) works across painting, sculpture and poetry. Working with found materials, Ekblad exploits the chance element of this approach which brings a restless energy to many of her works. Ekblad’s exhibition at BALTIC Centre for Contemporary Art, Gateshead, her first solo presentation in the UK, includes new and recent painting and sculpture.
This Summer BALTIC presents a survey exhibition and major new commission by the Dutch artist and filmmaker Fiona Tan. The spectacular new commission DEPOT, made especially for our Level 4 gallery, re-imagines ‘Jonah The Giant Whale’, a preserved whale which toured across Europe exhibited inside a lorry. Tan will rebuild the 76-foot long vehicle; however the inside will now contain a cabinet of curiosities inviting the viewer to climb aboard.
An exhibition of new and recent work comprising sculpture, collage and installation by London-based artist Jack Lavender.
